So . . . How was it for you?
It’s always a pleasure to receive a review from someone who’s bought, downloaded and read your novel. Most of the reviews I’ve received are balanced and constructive, but you can’t please everyone – and some reviews reflect that. In my opinion, the best reviews are the ones where the reader ‘gets your novel’, falls in love with your hero and roots for your heroine all the way to the final page. So thank you, dear reader, for buying my novels and sharing your views with me.
Here are some reviews for my latest novel: BOOT CAMP BRIDE
- there’s something extra special in Lizzie’s books. It was there in “Tall, Dark and Kilted”, her previous novel, and it’s definitely present and correct in “Boot Camp Bride”
- Funny, sexy and a good story, with a hint of mystery
- perfect blend of excitement, romance and humour
- It’s a perfect romance novel for these long dark evenings and has a good mystery tale to carry you along
I always fall in love with my sexy heroes and it looks as if my readers do, too!
- I found myself falling for him, just like his leading lady
- Brave, compassionate, noble and – of course – jaw-droppingly sexy
- The wonderfully named Rafael Fonseca-Ffinch is a total hunk
- Ffinch is the alpha male with a chink in his armour so beloved by romance readers
- The fascinating Rafael is shrouded in mystery
- (I loved) the mysterious but irresistible Rafael Ffinch
And you can’t beat a feisty, up-for-anything heroine
- Lizzie writes great heroines
- Fliss in “Tall, Dark and Kilted” was fun, feisty and realistic
- In “Boot Camp Bride”, the heroine Charlee (is) the sort of friend you’d happily hang out with
- Lizzie has the knack of creating great female protagonists who quickly get the reader onside, cheering them on
- I loved the Ugly Betty/Bridget Jones style character in Charlee
- Charlee is just divine – full of fire and fury
I love evocative settings – in Boot Camp Bride it’s the haunting Norfolk Marches
- fast-talking heroine, a deliciously erudite yet haunted hero, rollicking through all sorts of high jinks in the wilds of North Norfolk
- Lizzie also uses locations extremely well and paints them very vividly
- her descriptions of (the north Norfolk coast) and its windswept marshes and big skies reminded me of this hauntingly beautiful part of the country
- Lizzie Lamb paints as beguiling a picture of the magical Norfolk marshes, as she did of the Scottish Highlands

I loved both of your books, Lizzie – the great settings, cast of characters, and pace and flow of the narrative. In spite of being a writer myself, I still find it hard sometimes to do a book justice in a review. Have I been too wordy, too gushing, too long-winded or not said enough? I suppose, as you say, the important thing is just to write it, say you like it and post it! It means so much to get those reviews.

June, I totally agree. Lots of readers tell me on Facebook or in emails how much they like my books. But they are reluctant to leave a review on amazon. But really, only three lines would suffice. Grateful for any reviews, however brief. Thanks for commenting xx

Reviews, good, bad or indifferent attract readers. So yes, people–fans, friends, family–leave Lizzie a review as a Christmas gift, okay? Congrats, Lizzie, on some great reviews for BOOT CAMP BRIDE. I, too, fall madly in love with my dashing heroes. Lucky, lucky heroines, is what I always think.

Thanks for leaving such a great comment, Eileen. I think it would be very hard for an author to write convincingly about the hero in a romance if she didn’t fancy him like mad. I’ve loved both my heroes and have another waiting in the wings. I hope I don’t disappoint. 🙂

Well, you know how I feel about Ruiri and Rafe – up there with Rochester and Heathcliff – I’d happily take all 4! Seriously tho, in true Bronte style, you’re heroines are feisty, independent women too and that’s what I like so much about your books. No matter how gorgeous the hero is, the woman has to be in a class of her own too or I lose interest. Roll on book no.3 Lizzie – I know you’re going to pull off a hat trick! xxx

Hi Shani, I completely agree, the heroine is who drives the story forward. I look fiery, go-getting heroines who need an open minded, generous but totally HOT hero who can cope with them.Plotting number three as I write this – I certainly hope I can pull off a hat trick. Thank you Margaret. I think the heroine is the key to the novel as you and Shani have said. Get her right and the rest seems to flow from there. In many ways we are our heroines, aren’t we?

Some stunning and deserved reviews there Lizzie, it really is a great read, made me laugh out loud a lot, and the sex was spot on! (Ahem) I think we’re really lucky to be able to have all these gorgeous men in our novels, without upsetting the men in our lives. To be fair my heroes tend to be based on my real life ones, but I’d never let on. Looking forward to meeting your new one Mrs Lamb.
