I’m really thrilled to be able to share Harper’s Highland Fling with you. Within a day of publication it reached #1 spot in ‘hot new releases’ and (briefly) #1 in Scottish Historical Romance – happy days.
It’s been a tough year for all of us with the pandemic breathing down our necks and to make things worse, my home town of Leicester has been in lockdown since the beginning of June. Seriously. So it was a blessed relief to be able to lose myself in my novel and join Harper and Rocco on their road trip as they set out to track down Pen and Ariel and bring them home. This is my sixth novel and I hope, by the time you reach the end of this post, you’ll be tempted to download it.

I wanted to incorporate the notion of a road trip featuring the uptight head of a federation of failing primary schools, a bohemian garage owner with a tragic past and a couple of teenagers who couldn’t understand why going AWOL might upset their responsible adults. Sound familiar? I take them on a road trip from the toe of Cornwall to Plockton in the beautiful west highlands of Scotland – stopping off at Bristol, Leicester (where else?), Penrith, and Gretna Green. I’ve travelled that route many times so I was able to get out all my old photos and have my own private road trip. As for the uptight headmistress – I wonder who she was based on ?

Loved this – another fabulous, un-put-downable read from Lizzie! I especially enjoyed the two main characters (refreshingly, a tad older than some in romantic fiction) – starting to behave like irresponsible teenagers.

Thanks June, I have a feeling I’ll be writing about slightly older characters from now on. But I still want them to be capable of making the wrong choices (!) and getting into trouble.

Your book cheered me up so much in an otherwise very distressed time, it’s such a brilliant story! I may have fallen a bit in love with Rocco, just saying… I could quite picture the heroine in my head (you’d think I had some other primary school teacher in mind LOL) and you have a way of describing the setting, too that made me feel as if I was there (a much needed armchair travel). Brilliant photos, too! Thank you for sharing xx

Thanks Isa. I love Rocco and as for thsat bossy teacher, I can’t think who she could be !! I’m planning on writing a second armchair travel post when time allows so you can have another visit to the highlands. This time, Fort William to Mallaig. More photos coming up, too.

Thank you very much Jessie. Its the support and interest of writers and readers that spurs me on. I love comedy and try to build it into my novels, especially the dialogue between the hero/heroine. As you know, we didn;t make it to Scotland this year – really need a fix ASAP.

Love the summary and the photos Lizzie! I am about 25% into the story and am enjoying it very much. The dialogues are entertaining and your description of the characters make them come to life and jump of the pages. I can‘t wait to find out a bit more about Rocco‘s past and also wonder whether I learn more about Harper and what she actually looks like. It won‘t take long before I finish this one – high praise so far.

Loved your blog and hearing how your writing has helped during Leicester’s unbelievably long lockdown. As a creative person myself I understand what a sanctory creativity can be.
We all need a way to escape from the world at times and there’s nothing better than cozying up with a good book. I have just received my copy of your latest novel Highland Fling which I am so looking forward to reading, as I know I am in for a real treat!!!
Pull down the shutters, fluff up the cushions and do not disturb, I’m off for some me time to read Highland Fling and escape the lockdown 😊👍

Hi Phyllis, I thought my comments were posted last night but obviously not. As creative people we are able to disappear and lose ourselves into an alternative universe. Thank goodness for that as the long lockdown Leicester has had inflicted upon it has been very stressful. I love my writing as much as you love your painting. I’d love to do a blog post sometime featuring your artwork.

Yes in many ways it is an alternative universe not only for us, but for others as well.
I feel that writers write the words we cannot sometimes say and
artists create images of things often felt but not seen.
