What jobs have you had?
When I was old enough to have a Saturday job, I started off in Woolworths. I worked on the counter selling Batman toys. I worked my way up to clearing the tables in the cafe. I’ve worked in shoe shops and then along summer holidays in offices as a temp. 35 years as a teacher and now 12 as an indie author,

I had a summer job in a laundry once and I was really good at all the tasks…pressing shirts and overalls and working with 3 women on the sheet pressing roller. They were a lovely bunch of women. One of them read my tea leaves and some of it turned out to happen! I loved doing the Christmas post. I spent one summer working as a waitress in Fowey, Cornwall, and the next year as a pot washer in Polperro.
I went into primary teaching, but after a year travelling with a friend I ended up helping set up a Community Education and Arts Project in Handsworth, Birmingham. A wonderful experience. After children I stayed working in Adult and Community Education in Leicester, finly ending up as a Children’s Centre Teacher.

That sounds like a wonderful career path. I too was a primary school teacher for 35 years the last 15 or so as a deputy head. I enjoyed it, but I’m quite happy to be retired now.

I spent several seasons working on Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Started out selling novelty hats and then joined the catering team. From there I’ve had myriad roles including my own business. Thankfully, I’ve been in work all along and made some fab friends.

Let’s see… the first non-babysitting job was selling fabrics in a fabric shop, until it closed down. Then I did a short stint (3 days) in an ice cream parlor. After that I was a sales clerk for Marshall Field’s, Evanston branch. I worked part time for them during the school year and full time during the summers through High School. I had lots of other jobs, but once I got a position with a large non-profit organization doing programming for marginalized populations, I stuck with it for 22 years, and learned how to do resource development (fundraising) writing. After that I had a few different writing jobs in the non-profit world until I retired.
