Exeter Novel Prize – here comes Lizzie

Just leaving for Devon where the Exeter Novel Prize ceremony will take place on Saturday 12th March – the day after my birthday. I’m a finalist for the award and have beaten hundreds of other writers to get here. I’m the only indie author to have made the final. Even better, the short list has been drawn up by fabulous agent Broo Doherty. Woo hoo. Go me! The novel which has been short listed is my #1 best seller – Scotch on the Rocks. If you want to find out more about  that novel, read this blog. I’ll report back next week, hopefully clutching one of the prizes.

And finally . . . a heart warming review by Sharon Booth

My favourite bit? This . . .

“Romance? The best kind. It starts off with mistrust and doubt, sparks fly, passion ignites and then…Well, some romances are forever. There’s nothing so romantic as a hero who vows never to hurt the heroine, never to leave her, and to love her forever. Especially when you just know he’s speaking the truth.”

Here’s the blurb for Boot Camp Bride . . .

Take an up-for-anything rookie reporter.  Add a world-weary photo-journalist.  Put them together . . . light the blue touch paper and stand well back! Posing as a bride-to-be, Charlee Montague goes undercover at a boot camp for brides in Norfolk to photograph supermodel Anastasia Markova looking less than perfect. At Charlee’s side and posing as her fiancé, is Rafael Ffinch award winning photographer and survivor of a kidnap attempt in Colombia. He’s in no mood to cut inexperienced Charlee any slack and has made it plain that once the investigation is over, their partnership – and fake engagement – will be terminated, too.  Soon Charlee has more questions than answers. What’s the real reason behind Ffinch’s interest in the boot camp? How is it connected to his kidnap in Colombia? In setting out to uncover the truth, Charlee puts herself in danger … As the investigation draws to a close, she wonders if she’ll be able to hand back the engagement ring and walk away from Rafa without a backward glance.

Scotch on the Rocks - pre order

Yay. The day I’ve been dreaming of this since I started writing Scotch on the Rocks just over a year ago. Not quite publication day, but close.

I’ve loved writing this book and I owe a big debt to my writer and non-writer friends who have read it, commented and made suggestions along the way. Writing this novel has involved at least two research trips to Scotland (it’s a dirty job – what can I say?!) and hours spent pouring over catalogues of men in kilts. I have to thank Dr Nick Fiddes of http://www.scotweb.co.uk who so generously allowed me to use one of the images from his website. Sorry I had to decapitate the poor laddie.

Scotland, is a dreamy, mystical place and the further north one travels the more one feels it. It’s as if its situated smack in the middle of the biggest ley line on earth. Even though we were blasted by wind and rain in May during my research trip, I’m keen to go back again. If you’re wondering why I feel so drawn to this land and the people who live in it, read my upcoming blog – FIFTY SHADES OF PLAID. Who needs grey when they can have tartan? Ok, down to the business in hand.

Here’s the blurb for Scotch on the Rocks . . .

SCOTCH ON THE ROCKS – Where the men are men and the women are glad of it!

ISHABEL STUART is at the crossroads of her life.

Her wealthy industrialist father has died unexpectedly, leaving her a half-share in a ruined whisky distillery and the task of scattering his ashes on a Munroe.  After discovering her fiancé playing away from home, she cancels their lavish Christmas wedding at St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh and heads for the only place she feels safe – Eilean na Sgairbh, a windswept island on Scotland’s west coast -where the cormorants outnumber the inhabitants, ten to one.

When she arrives at her family home – now a bed and breakfast managed by her left-wing, firebrand Aunt Esme, she finds a guest in situ – BRODIE. Issy longs for peace and the chance to lick her wounds, but gorgeous, sexy American, Brodie, turns her world upside down instead.

In spite of her vow to steer clear of men, she grows to rely on Brodie.  However, she suspects him of having an ulterior motive for staying at her aunt’s B&B on remote Cormorant Island. Having been let down by the men in her life, will it be third time lucky for Issy? Is she wise to trust a man she knows nothing about – a man who presents her with more questions than answers?

As for Aunt Esme, she has secrets of her own . . .

Happy Birthday – The Right Design

BlueHappyBirthday

I’m pleased to welcome fabulous author Isabella Louise Anderson to my blog. Isabella published her debut novel THE RIGHT DESIGN exactly one year ago and U’m looking forward to learning more about her and and her awesome novel.

BioPic

Isabella grew up with a book in her hand, and to this day nothing has changed. She is a member of the Romance Writers of America and has been featured on several blogs. While Isabella doesn’t blog a lot, she focuses her time on featuring other writers, along with writing and editing. Isabella Louise Anderson created Chick Lit Goddess to share the love of the following genres: Chick Lit, Contemporary Romance, Romance, and Romantic Comedies! She loves featuring authors and their books. She lives in Dallas with her husband and cat. She enjoys spicy Mexican food and drinking margaritas, and can be found spending time with family and friends, cheering on the Texas Rangers, and reading. Isabella’s short story, Meet Me Under the Mistletoe, was featured in Simon & Fig’s Christmas anthology, Merry & Bright, in November 2013. The Right Design is her first novel.

The_Right_Design_Cover_for_Kindle

In the author’s debut novel comes a story about picking up the pieces, letting go of the past, and finding love along the way–even if morals are tested!

Interior designer Carrie Newman could not have envisioned a more perfect life for herself. She had a great job doing what she loved, wonderful friends, and a close relationship with her sister and brother-in-law. Add in an amazing man who she’d hoped would soon become her husband, and her life was perfect. Until one devastating decision ruins her relationship and changes the course of her life.

Determined to make a new start, Carrie leaves Texas and heads to Palm Beach to pick up the pieces of her shattered and broken life. The last thing she expects is to find herself attracted to her first client at her new job–Brad Larson, who has proven himself time and time again to be caddish.

But there’s something beneath the surface of Brad’s arrogant exterior that keeps her craving more of him–something almost sweet that Carrie can’t seem to resist.

Is Carrie ready to take another chance on romance? And will this new design of her life prove to be the right one?

So . . . How was it for you?

It’s always a pleasure to receive a review from someone who’s bought, downloaded and read your novel. Most of the reviews I’ve received are balanced and constructive, but you can’t please everyone – and some reviews reflect that. In my opinion, the best reviews are the ones where the reader ‘gets your novel’, falls in love with your hero and roots for your heroine all the way to the final page. So thank you, dear reader, for buying my novels and sharing your views with me.

Here are some reviews for my latest novel: BOOT CAMP BRIDE

  • there’s something extra special in Lizzie’s books. It was there in “Tall, Dark and Kilted”, her previous novel, and it’s definitely present and correct in “Boot Camp Bride”
  • Funny, sexy and a good story, with a hint of mystery
  • perfect blend of excitement, romance and humour
  • It’s a perfect romance novel for these long dark evenings and has a good mystery tale to carry you along

I always fall in love with my sexy heroes and it looks as if my readers do, too!

  • I found myself falling for him, just like his leading lady
  • Brave, compassionate, noble and – of course – jaw-droppingly sexy
  • The wonderfully named Rafael Fonseca-Ffinch is a total hunk
  • Ffinch is the alpha male with a chink in his armour so beloved by romance readers
  • The fascinating Rafael is shrouded in mystery
  • (I loved) the mysterious but irresistible Rafael Ffinch

And you can’t beat a feisty, up-for-anything heroine

  • Lizzie writes great heroines
  • Fliss in “Tall, Dark and Kilted” was fun, feisty and realistic
  • In “Boot Camp Bride”, the heroine Charlee (is) the sort of friend you’d happily hang out with
  • Lizzie has the knack of creating great female protagonists who quickly get the reader onside, cheering them on
  • I loved the Ugly Betty/Bridget Jones style character in Charlee
  • Charlee is just divine – full of fire and fury

I love evocative settings – in Boot Camp Bride it’s the haunting Norfolk Marches

  • fast-talking heroine, a deliciously erudite yet haunted hero, rollicking through all sorts of high jinks in the wilds of North Norfolk
  • Lizzie also uses locations extremely well and paints them very vividly
  • q

  • her descriptions of (the north Norfolk coast) and its windswept marshes and big skies reminded me of this hauntingly beautiful part of the country
  • Lizzie Lamb paints as beguiling a picture of the magical Norfolk marshes, as she did of the Scottish Highlands

And finally . . .

Boot Camp Bride will be available on Amazon Countdown from Monday 23rd December until Monday 30th December.
Lowest price £0.99/ highest £1.99 – but the clock will be ticking

As one reviewer put it . . .

(Boot Camp Bride is) Funny, sexy and a good story, with a hint of mystery. Don’t just sit there go out and buy it. You won’t be disappointed
